About Lovelady, TX - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Lovelady is located in Houston County, Texas, approximately 160 miles southeast of Dallas and 100 miles north of the city of Houston. Established in 1872 as a stop on the Houston & Great Northern Railroad, the town was named for early settler Cyrus Lovelady on whose land the city was founded.

Present day Lovelady is home to a population of approximately 600 residents and more than 150 businesses based primarily in public administration, education, agriculture, and construction. Low crime, median home prices in the mid-50s, and a cost of living index nearly 25% lower than that of the national average continue to attract new residents and businesses to the city each year.

Lovelady is served by the Lovelady Independent School District. The district oversees the administration of two public schools – Lovelady Elementary/Middle School and Lovelady Jr. High/High School – that feature a combined student population of approximately 502 students. Lovelady is located within 40 miles of several institutes of higher learning, including Sam Houston State University in Huntsville and Angelina College in Lufkin.

Lovelady’s humid subtropical climate produces hot humid summers and moderately cool winters – perfect weather for enjoying the numerous opportunities for year-round outdoor sports and recreation that dominate the region. Lovelady is located 35 miles west of Davy Crockett National Forest, a 160,000-acre expanse of woodlands, wetlands, and waterways that features a wide variety of recreational activities that include fishing, boating, hunting, camping, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The city is located within 30 miles of two excellent fishing lakes, as well – Lake Livingston to the north and Houston County Lake to the south.

The Old Gym is a Lovelady tradition. Housed in the former gymnasium of the original Lovelady High School, the Old Gym underwent major restoration through the efforts of retired dentist Marvin Russel and 1952 Lovelady High School valedictorian Norma Dell Jones, who saw the structure transformed from its previous rundown condition to its present-day status as the center of festivals, music, and special events for the city. The Old Gym is currently used for a variety of community happenings, including weddings, family reunions, and school-related events, and is the home of Lovelady Lovefest, the city’s annual Valentine celebration that features live entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, a BBQ cook-off, and of course, the Love Fest Dance held at the Old Gym.

Situated along State Highway 19, midway between the cities of Crockett and Trinity, Lovelady is a great place to experience the comforts and pleasures of East Texas living!
